Welcome and Farewell

We welcome Cheyenne into the Siler clan. She is beautiful.

We bid a fond farewell to Junior Chisom who passed away on January 20 with Phyllis, Lollie, Woody and Cathy at his side. He was a good man and will be missed.

Phyllis has moved into a new room at Friendship. It is like assisted living and there are more activities. So far she likes it.

Linda and I ended up missing the funeral on Friday. We spend the day in the ER at Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital. Linda had been having some vision problems and dizzy spells. She had an appointment with an ophthalmologist on Friday morning. We were sure we'd have plenty of time to get to the funeral but the doctor sent us directly to the ER for an MRI/MRV to rule out a tumor or blood clot, which he didn't expect and thankfully there were none. She then had a spinal tap to measure pressure of the cerebro-spinal fluid (the fluid that surrounds the brain and spinal cord). The pressure was quite high and that was causing her symptoms. The ER doctor removed quite a bit of fluid to relieve the pressure. Some symptoms went away immediately and she is feeling better every day. We thank everyone for all their prayers.

2008 Siler Christmas Party

Hi everyone.

We had about 45 people at the Roanoker for our Christmas party. Being Silers, it was loud, but a lot of fun. It was nice to catch up with everyone.

After Dinner, we discussed the summer picnic. Bill said that we have a paid for reservation at a Roanoke County park due to the fact that we had to cancel last June after Darlene passed away. Bill will contact the park department about setting a date for 2009. Those present voted for June 20 at noon.

Randy said the Elaine had made wreaths for Mr. & Mrs. Siler's graves and also Darlene's. Darlene's headstone had been placed, but the footer didn't remain level and it's being done again.

We discussed next year's Christmas party. It was voted to move the date to the Saturday after Thanksgiving, since there are a lot of conflicts in December. The time will also be earlier so that everyone can be home before dark. We talked about whether to go to a restaurant or go back to a hall. Most seemed to like the restaurant idea because we didn't have to cook and clean. We could also go back to the VFW hall, which Bill can get for free because he's a member. Janet is going to contact some caterers about catering a dinner at the VFW. When she gets back to us with prices, we'll contact everyone to poll them as to what everyone wants to do. If we go to a restaurant again, we'll have to make the reservation early in the year to get the date and time we want.

Linda will put out a newsletter after the first of the year for those who don't use the blog.

Chris told us that Laura and Lorien are still in Texas awaiting the birth of Katie's baby. I'm sure Chris will post when the baby is born.

Billy and I wish everyone a wonderful Christmas and a Happy, Healthy New Year.
Pat

Siler Family Christmas Party

Hi Bonnie,

Sorry I didn't reply to your post, but I haven't been on the blog in ages. By now I know you have the date and time of the party and we have the final list of attendees.

Christmas Party information:

The party will be Saturday, December 6, 2008 at 5:00pm at the Roanoker. We have a room reserved and expect 42 people. We know that some of you have conflicts and can't attend. You will be missed. We hope to see you at the Siler picnic next June.

Family News:

Most of you probably know that Phyllis and Junior have moved into Friendship Manor in Roanoke. Please contact me at silerpugs@yahoo.com for address and phone number information. They are in a room together, which I'm sure they are happy about.

Mary Catherine has bought a condo on Cape Cod and moved in last month. She's really excited to finally have her own place. Please contact me for her address and new email address. I'm sure she'd love to hear from family members. She is talking about attending either the picnic or Christmas party next year!

Jim and Lori moved to Los Angeles earlier this year. His freelance TV sound business is thriving and Lori has a good job, so they're doing well. Their email addresses haven't changed and I know they'd like to hear from you. Shain and her boyfriend Mark flew out for Thanksgiving and Lori's niece's Bat Mitzvah.

I'm scheduled for surgery at Duke on January 9. It will be my fourth and final surgery over the past two years. I have been very pleased so far. I feel better than I have in 15 years!

The blog has been kind of silent for awhile. Hopefully, the family will get more active and post updates on their "doings".

Billy and I wish everyone a Merry Christmas and a Happy, Healthy New Year.
Love, Billy & Pat
